USHIO Selected for the FTSE4Good Index for the Eighth Consecutive Year

USHIO INC. was selected as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series, a socially responsible investment (SRI) index*1 provided by the U.K.-based FTSE Group*2, for the eighth consecutive year.

Companies that meet international standards*3 in terms of the environment and social responsibility are selected for the FTSE4Good Index. Currently, 892 companies from 25 countries around the world are included, of which 190 companies are from Japan (as of Apr 14, 2011).

Recognized for its performance in the areas of environmental preservation as well as the protection of human rights, USHIO has been chosen for the index since 2004.

*1 A joint venture between The Financial Times and London Stock Exchange, the FTSE Group manages the FTSE Global Equity Index Series such as FTSE100.

*2 In addition to investment criteria based on financial analysis, the SRI index also takes into account whether companies fulfill their social responsibility by promoting corporate practices in consideration of corporate ethics, society, the environment, safety and other areas.

*3 FTSE4Good criteria have been frequently revised. Currently, “environmental stewardship and sustainability,” “protection of and support for human rights,” “guarantee for supply chain labor standards,” “countering bribery” and “climate change” are used as benchmarks for inclusion.
