Ushio Wins Laser Society of Japan's Industry Encouragement Award

Ushio Inc. was awarded the 12th Laser Society of Japan Industry Encouragement Award for its high-power red laser diode (HL63520HD).
This award is presented to those who have contributed to the development of the laser-related industry in Japan through the development, practical application, and dissemination of laser-related products and technologies. In particular, the Encouragement Award distinguishes “market development and future potential” and the following aspects of HL63520HD have been recognized:
- ・Ushio’s technology for achieving the world's highest optical output power and power conversion efficiency, as well as its proven track record as one of the world's top two red semiconductor laser manufacturers.
- ・The market for large projectors and laser TVs is expected to grow, which may later extend to automotive heads-up displays for automotive and AR/VR applications, demonstrating high future market potential for HL63520HD.
This high-powered red laser diode has been available for laser projection applications since April 2019. Compared to conventional lamp-type projectors, the red laser diode light source has a longer lifetime and does not require lamp replacement, which contributes to a reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO). Ushio has been receiving positive feedback from its projector manufacturers and will continue its contribution to the increase of red laser diode-equipped projectors in the future.

■Features of High Power Red Laser Diode (HL63520HD)
(1) Achieves the world's highest pulse output power of 3.5W and a lifetime of over MTTF 20,000 hours
(2) Realizes 3.5 W of pulsed light output power at an operating temperature of -10°C to 45°C
(3) Pulse output power of 2.5W is achieved at the upper operating temperature of 55°C
(4) Achieved the world's highest power conversion efficiency of 43%; simplified cooling mechanism with reduced power consumption
(5) The world's highest optical output of 2.4W (even in CW operation) and a lifetime of over MTTF 20,000 hours has been achieved
(6) It can be installed in both pulse and CW operation type projectors
