Near-infrared laser diodes in the 700nm band are used in many applications, including biomedical and life sciences, and in recent years, quantum technology. The material system of 780nm band LDs (GaAlAs) used in conventional light sources such as CDs, etc., it is difficult to shorten the wavelength to 700nm while maintaining temperature characteristics, and the material system of 660nm band LDs (AlGaInP) used in light sources such as DVDs, etc., it is difficult to extend the wavelength to 700nm due to difficulty in crystal growth. Ushio has applied its device design and crystal growth technologies cultivated through the development of 640nm red laser diodes to commercialize a high output power of 200mW and highly reliable LDs at wavelengths of 700nm and 705nm, which have been considered difficult to obtain high-quality crystals from AlGaInP-based materials. These LDs won the Innovation Award in the field of quantum technology at the LASER World of PHOTONICS 2023. In addition, our lineup of high-output 200mW LDs with wavelengths of 671nm, 689nm, and 698nm have been highly evaluated, especially by universities and research institutes in the quantum technology field.
Laser diodes in the 780 to 850 nm band are used in applications that require precision, such as night vision and sensors. These LDs are required to have good beam quality, and our proprietary design technology has enabled us to achieve good beam characteristics. In response to recent market needs, we have commercialized an 850 nm 250 mW LD with higher power and efficiency while maintaining good beam quality. We also have a lineup of 785nm 200mW LDs for biomedical and life science applications such as Raman spectroscopy and ICG analysis.
