XTREME Becomes Wholly Owned Subsidiary of USHIO

Tokyo, Japan—May 26, 2008—USHIO INC.(‘USHIO’) is pleased to announce that XTREME Technologies GmbH(‘XTREME’) has joined the USHIO Group as a wholly owned subsidiary. Details are as follows.

XTREME was established in 2001 to conduct R&D in Extreme Ultra Violet (EUV) sources, a technology for photolithography of new generation semiconductors. Since acquiring a 50% stake of XTREME in 2005, USHIO has managed its operations jointly with JENOPTIK Laser, Optik, Systeme GmbH (JENOPTIK), a joint partner.

As part of efforts to strengthen the EUV development business, USHIO acquired the stake in XTREME held by JENOPTIK, making XTREME a wholly owned subsidiary.

USHIO and XTREME will build on their effective joint development with Philips Extreme UV GmbH in the future, based on an agreement concluded in October 2007. The companies aim to achieve commercial production of EUV sources at the earliest possible stage.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of USHIO, XTREME will continue to provide services to existing customers using its existing support structure.
