Ushio Group Supports Overseas NPO’s Travelling Movie Theatre

Touring developing countries to bring excitement and thrills to children who have never seen a movie

Ushio Inc. (Head office: Tokyo, President and Chief Executive Officer: Koji Naito) has teamed up with Christie Digital Systems, Inc. (Head office: California, Chairman and CEO: Kazuhisa Kamiyama) and Ushio Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (Head office: Tokyo, Representative Director: Shiro Ushio) to provide year-long support to a non-profit organization that tours the countryside in developing countries with travelling movie theatres by providing equipment such as projectors and venues.

Since its establishment in 1964, Ushio Group has enriched people’s lives through the manufacture of lamps for use in applications that employ light both as illumination and as energy. While Ushio’s xenon lamps have been adopted for use in about 65%* of the world’s movie theatres, Christie’s digital cinema projectors constitute about 35%* of the worldwide market share in cinema and imaging industry.

As an expression of its gratitude to the cinema and imaging industry and society at large for its patronage over the years, Ushio Group launched “Ushio Dream Projection Project” in April 2019 as a group-wide undertaking. The year-long travelling movie theatre support effort is a part of this project.

Ushio Group will continue pursuing realization of its corporate slogan “Bring Light to Life.”

■ Introducing Supported NPO

World Theater Project (Areas of Activity : Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, and Madagascar)
https://worldtheater-pj.net/

World Theater Project is a non-profit organization that seeks to open the world where children can hold dreams regardless of the environment in which they are raised. Since 2012, we have toured rural villages in developing countries with travelling movie theatres to show movies to children who have never seen a movie before. Our activity started in Cambodia with the support and cooperation of a wide range of people, and since then has spread to a number of other countries.
The support we receive from Ushio Group, a manufacturer of light-related products with deep ties to cinema, has thrown light on our activities. We are sure that the movies we have shown to children using Christie’s projectors will help illuminating children’s lives.

Cine Movil Toto  (Area of activity :Mexico)

Founded six years ago by two friends with a vision and enthusiasm for film transcending the boundaries of entertainment, Cine Movil Toto has grown into an organization that works continuously to join people together and propel regional growth with values that are “Made in Mexico.” Each year we perform tours and special screenings throughout the country to provide people who normally do not have access to movies with the opportunity to enjoy movies in a variety of spaces.
We perform tours lasting from one to five months in neglected communities in rural and remote areas where cinema is non-existent or hardly within reach. Rolling over 70,000 kilometers in four tours so far, we have reached faraway corners in 28 states of the country, moving the will of 68,000 girls, boys, young adults and elder people and uniting Mexico with movies. Using the projector that has been provided to us, we will continue conducting tours throughout Mexico, bringing movies to many people.
