Action Plan for Environment

Phase Six of the Environmental Action Plan

Phase Six of the Environmental Action Plan for fiscal 2020 focused on the key areas that we have worked on since fiscal 2019; green products, reducing CO2 emissions at business sites, CSR procurement, and biodiversity preservation.
From fiscal 2021, these plans shall be reviewed from a long-term perspective.

Plan and Initiatives Results
Develop products that contribute to the environment and society Targets
Started reducing CO2 emissions in Category 11 of SCOPE 3 (*1) in line with the target (SBT (*2) target reduction of 2.54%/year)
・Estimate the CO2 emissions of the subject products in fiscal2017 for the entire group toward the 2030 target of SCOPE 3 Category 11.
・Strengthen Super Green Product standards and start to improve GP/SG ratio (*3) under the new standards. SG ratio target: 10%.
∙ Investigate group-wide product mix, related technologies, alternative technologies, and new development trends to reduce CO2 emissions

・Completed collection of group-wide basic data for fiscal 2017, the base year for SCOPE3.
In addition, we collected basic data for fiscal 2018 and data for fiscal 2019, and reduced CO2 emissions by changing the Group-wide product mix.
・The Super Green Product certification rate was 60% of the target, and the target was not achieved due to the tightening of the Super Green Product standards.
・Conducted a close examination of the sales ratio of solid-state light sources (optical semiconductors) and focused on its contribution to the future improvement of the ratio of super green products
Reducing CO2 in business activities
(Reduce CO2 in all Ushio group business activities and a sales unit basis at major sites)
Targets
・Reduce SCOPE1 + 2 CO2 emissions by 2% compared to fiscal 2017 (SBT target)
・1% reduction of the production per-unit at major sites compared to fiscal 2019 (*4)
・Efforts to maintain and improve ranks under the Energy Conservation Law
・Startup of solar power generation facilities at Gotemba plant

・Reduce SCOPE1 + 2 CO2 emissions by 14.3% compared to fiscal 2017
・CO2 production per-unit at major sites increased by 1.4% compared to fiscal 2019
・Maintain the class of the Energy Conservation Law.
・Started analysis to study a per-unit in line with actual conditions for improvement
・Startup of solar power generation facilities at Gotemba plan

CSR procurement
(CSR procurement promotion)
Targets
・Review of CSR procurement survey implementation procedures and judgment criteria
・Implementation of CSR Procurement Survey for our suppliers with response rate of 100%, and D and E rating of 10% or less
・Sharing the results of the CSR procurement survey with the Group and preparing CSR procurement questionnaire at overseas production sites

・Revised the Group's management rules for green procurement standards and established it
・Conducted CSR procurement survey of our suppliers, and the response rate was 95%, D and E rank rate actual 7%
・Shared the results of the CSR Procurement Survey with the Group and CSR Procurement Questionnaire at Overseas Production Sites is now available.

Biodiversity preservation
(Effective use of water and resources (including water risk management))
・Understanding of water risks and countermeasures (water risk disclosure requirements by investors, water pollution, operating risks, etc.)
・Promotion of resource recycling
・Regarding water risk assessment and countermeasures, the reduction of water resources was planned, and concrete activities for Gotemba plant started.

(※1) Specifically CO2 emission by use of sold products within CO2 emitted from product materials until product disposal

(※2) Science Based Targets: Setting targets in line with current scientific knowledge to prevent global warming.

(※3) Rate of Green products, and Super-green products in the total number of assessments at the time of developing new products

(※4) CO2 of the Group's main sites is calculated and divided by the sum of production output, and we use this production per-unit as the management figure.

※The Sixth Environmental Action Plan was completed with the results of fiscal 2020. From fiscal 2021, each theme was also evaluated as an important issue in the identification of Mission & Vision for 2030 and  materiality.

Therefore, we will continue to address this issue as one of the themes of the fourth Management Focus from fiscal 2021.
